Dry, Wet, or Dipped

The Art Of The Beef Order //

Ordering an Italian Beef takes a lingo all it’s own. But don’t be intimidated. With this simple guide we will have you ordering like a true Chicagoian in no time.

How to begin: Sweet or hot?

Sweet or hot refers to the peppers on top of the sandwich. Sweet peppers are grilled bell peppers, hot refers to giardiniera, a spicy mix of pickled jalapeños, celery, green olives, garlic, onion, and cauliflower. So you can order your beef “sweet”, “hot”, or if you want both “sweet and hot”.

If you don’t want the peppers on your sandwich, no one is going to judge you. Your mom isn’t here to make you eat your veggies.

To Cheese Or Not To Cheese?

Traditionally, a beef is not served with cheese. But really, this is just a “back in my day” kind of argument. You want cheese, just say “Add Mozz”!

The Real Question: Dry, Wet or Dipped?

So what does it really mean? It means how soggy do you want your sandwich. This really is not a trick question. You really should give a soggy sandwich a try.

Dry: The beef is pulled from the juices and allowed to drain off, then placed onto a dry roll.

Wet: The beef is pulled and immediately put onto the roll with all its juices still clinging to the meat.

Dipped: Our au jus (gravy) is really good. There is no such thing as too much gravy. A dipped beef is exactly what it sounds like. We take the whole sandwich and dip it in the gravy. I know what you are thinking: “That sounds messy!” Well, it is. This sandwich created a whole style of eating called the “Chicago Hunch”. You have to eat over your plate with this sandwich for sure.

Want to step up your beef experience? Try ordering it as a combo, with a Chicago style italian sausage under the beef.
